What is a lithophane?
A lithophane is a carved or 3D printed translucent plaque that reveals a detailed image when lit from behind. Brighter parts of the image are made of thinner layers of material, letting more light through, and darker parts are thicker. The variation in thickness allows for a grayscale image to show through with clarity.
How does it work?
Send us an image you’d like converted, and we take care of the rest! Check out the full process below:

Submit A Photo
It can be in color or in black and white, but keep in mind that the final product will be grayscale. We are more than happy to convert your photos to black and white for you!

We Print It
Wyatt of Ominous Jellyfish then converts the image into something their 3D printer can read and turn into a plastic sheet of varying thicknesses based on the light and dark colors in the image.

Choose Your Lighting
This is where the magic happens: The lighting. The light behind the lithophane is what makes it look like your photo! You can get this done in two ways: Either via a plug-in cord, or a wireless battery pack. Your lithophane will have light strips built into the box assembled around the print. Just flip the switch or press the button, and you have a custom glowing grayscale photo to share!
